TUMS are for excess acid in the stomach, not for basic stuff as suggested by a pH of 10.5.

You survived because a human stomach has much buffering capability. Of course, if that was overextended, your gut (God forbid) could get turned inside out, including seemingly endless runs.

To be sure, some folks had the runs. But their system made the corrective adjustments soon after.

At one time, I lived in Alliston, Ontario, where the well water was very "hard" (i.e. it had high mineral content.) No one had told me about this. Initially, I suffered stomach upsets without knowing why. But I soon found out when I saw white crystals of calcium and magnesium salts appear in my hair shortly after I had my shower, and tea made from the water turned dark and some brown solid would precipitate out.
