Home values show only nominal rise

Fourth-quarter appreciation slowest in 7 years
Home values are forecast to rise by just 3 percent in 2002, which would be the slowest growth since 1994.

Feb. 28 — Home values inched up just 0.33 percent in the fourth quarter, the slowest rate in seven years, as the recession and Sept. 11 terrorist attacks took their toll on the housing market, according to Freddie Mac. Home values are likely to continue growing slowly in 2002, the chief economist for the government-chartered mortgage lender said Thursday.
