Not only that, the "documents" didn't say Kennedy had a plan to get out of Vietnam, merely that a memo asked for a contingency plan.

That offers no support to the theory that Kennedy was planning to get out, in fact, everything about the Kennedys tells you just the opposite. Especially after Kennedy had Vietnam's president assassinated. The Kennedys were responsible for Vietnam after that.

Also, remember that Kennedy's McNamara escalated the war under LBJ until he went basically nuts (so LBJ thought) and LBJ had him kicked over to the World Bank, where he caused more grief for the world.

Your suspicion is the reason classification is a scam, designed to cover screw-ups and criminal acts by government.
Only very few things need classification, not the 70 million documents still classified.

"Why'd it take until 1997 for this "declassification" -- is that how long it took for whatever phony documents they have to age and look like they came from the right era? "
