Has she seen Cabaret?
Why don't you tell her it is the "Tommy" of this generation- chances are she has heard of Tommy.

I'm fascinated with your comparison, one that hadn't occurred to me.
What ARE the connections you were making to your daughter?

I have seen Moulin Rouge only once, and loved it a lot, but it is in a way so assaultive that I think I was excited by the sheer spectacle, the anachronistic and completely unapologetic use of music, the full-blown special effects, that I sort of missed any deep thoughts!

I had thought of it as a La Bohème adaptation, but there are certainly some similarities to Cabaret- let's see- we have the not-so-ingenue and the love story set against a wild historical backdrop, the stretching of the moral fabric of society....

Well, ok, Jewel, I am now really interested in how this turns out. I recommend listening and not blabbling (although I am quite sure that you are not at all a blabberer- certainly not in my class of blabbering anyway)
Lead her into making her own connections-- and report to us on Monday. My then 18 year old saw the revival of Cabaret in NY last year, I should ask him what he thinks! Hey, I will ask him tomorrow when I see him if I remember.

I wonder if Cabaret will seem dated to you at all now. It did to me a bit a couple of months ago. MIchael York's hair- eww.
