Adults have a far, far too rosy picture of sweet, lovable children

That brings back memories of Frederick Smart, one of the odder among the odd inmates of SI, who used to go off on extended rapturous monologues about how we all needed to emulate the sweet innocence of the children. Used to make me wonder if he'd ever actually known any children. Don't get me wrong, I love kids - and I spend a lot of time with them, my own and others - but I have few illusions about their innocence and sweetness. They can be breathtakingly cruel.
