CRUS ($15.50) sees 4th quarter at high end of estimates

AUSTIN, Tex. , Feb 28 (Reuters) - Semiconductor maker Cirrus Logic Inc. (NasdaqNM:CRUS - news) said on Thursday it sees loss per share for its fiscal fourth quarter at the lower end of estimates and revenue at the higher end on what it said was strengthening business activity.

Austin, Texas-based Cirrus said it expects its loss in the March quarter to be at the ``favorable end'' of a range of 11 cents to 15 cents, with revenue ``at or slightly above the high end'' of a range of $81 million to $83 million.

The average estimate of brokers surveyed by Thomson Financial/First Call was for a loss of 14 cents.

Cirrus said design activity was up, as was its backlog of orders, giving it confidence in the potential to grow revenue.

Shares in Cirrus were down 18 cents in late-afternoon trade on Nasdaq. Their 52-week high is $29.28 and their 52-week low is $6.

Invitrogen Corp. (Nasdaq:IVGN - news) fell sharply after-hours to $42.01 from a close on Nasdaq at $45.64, after the company said its first-quarter revenue and earnings would fall short due to currency exchange rates and weakness in some of its business segments.
