"id" is supposed to be instinct and "superego" is supposed to be conscience... if these things are beyond conscious thought then they're not useful to me as something to consciously think about anyway... so i just toss 'em in the box marked "things for other people like freud to think about". i just have two concepts to mess wif... the "little self"... and the "big self". i use the fruedian term "ego" because most everyone's familiar wif it and the definition fits the "little self". if you were to draw a line or border around everything that you define as "you", the "ego", or little "self", is everything inside that boundary. this includes your body but EXCLUDES mine and pamela anderson's... and the fire hydrant on the corner. your mind and thoughts are a little harder to draw the line around... and your spirit is the hardest of all to outline. BUT... wherever you place that border, it defines your "ego" or "little self". the "big self" includes EVERYTHING IN THE UNIVERSE. YES!... this includes PAMELA ANDERSON'S BODY!!!!!!! the "big self" is the concept millions of people call "God" or "Allah" or "Father Sky - Mother Earth", the ultimate "Big Kahuna", "El Jefe", "Dios", "Nature", "The Universe" or "The Collective Self". how do you identify with the "big self"? THAT is the question. how do you dissolve the "ego" boundaries? LSD? accept Christ as your savior? vision quest? peyote? have an epiphany? be born again? go sailing? go golfing? skiing? enlightenment?... you won't get there through the intellect... or from anything i might write.Does Id have anything to do with the collective self? it's IN THERE.How does one get Super Ego to stay off the inner couch and stay focused and motivated to keep Id on track? Instead of letting him try to seek instant gratification in anything he begins discovering an interest in? don't fight desire. it's the natural motivator. follow your bliss... eventually, it will take you to the "big self" via your perfect path, the one that is right for you, the one you can trust. my path has included a lot of BEER, NAKED LADIES, and SPORTS. -el viejo
