The reason freezing does not kill sperm is that sperm is not officially alive according to the Catholic church. If it is not alive, then it cannot die. Bacteria, however can get married and have children so they are allowed to die and go to heaven.

I think the survival of frozen sperm has something to do with it being freeze-dried and vacuum packed. It is frozen so fast, it goes into cryrogenic suspension of dynamic life processes and the little fellahs don't have time to croak.

This is like when the money for production of a cartoon dries up and they cannot pay the artists. Ergo, you get suspended animation. This effect is also seen when the film gets stuck in the projector gate.
