Sam, I agree with your argument. I think technology has a huge amount to offer as we go forward, and the surviving tech companies will again attract capital as we emerge from this downturn.

Sam, I am thinking that as a result of significant market losses for many folks out there, overall asset allocations may never return to the aggressive proportions of the recent past. Sidelined cash will certainly return to tech and chase higher returns, but some of it will likely remain in diversified conservative investments. I guess I would argue that defensive positioning may not be as "temporary" and "marginal" as you have suggested.
