are make-believe Muslims

I wish they were, but they are not. You can be sure that copies of the tape of Pearl getting his throat slit will be enjoyed by terrorist groups all over the world.

precisely the same thinking in evidence when a Somali warlord had a US soldier's corpse dragged through the streets

The Somali warlord got us out of Somalia, didn't he? We are still working to undo the lesson of that debacle.

It says only that the perpetrators are make-believe Muslims that every sane human being can clearly see are brutal butchers

I hope the rest of Islam starts delivering this message, because the perpetrators think they are fine Muslims, the only true Muslims in fact. They are doing a brisk business recruiting for jihad with such tapes -- not just in Muslim countries, but in Europe as well.

>>It gains nothing for the perpetrator<<

One of the strongest drives is the drive for ego boosting. That videotape was the giveaway. He gets the thrill again and again. Having people in his peer group adulate him. It's a rush. Also, gives social advantages in group interactions. His 15 minutes of fame.

Sounds like SR has "crossed the Rubicon" with the Pearl beheading? That was an astonishing post!
