New 2 days old, but with more details: Tuesday, February 26, 2002 Internet.com Juniper Building Out C&W Infrastructure By Michael Singer Infrastructure provider Juniper Networks Tuesday launched an aggressive undertaking: helping Cable & Wireless build out their Internet Infrastructure. San Francisco-based Cable & Wireless has been on a global expansion as of late. The company has customers in 70 countries and consists of two divisions: Cable & Wireless Regional and Cable & Wireless Global, which it uses to develop advanced IP networks and services in the US, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. And that's where Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Juniper comes in. Jupiter says its multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) will let Cable & Wireless create bushels of IP services. Juniper says it will use its M160 routers to make way for the deployment of new, concurrent IP services that leverage high-speed access lines for end-customers at OC3 (155 megabits per second) speeds and above. "The delivery of multiple, concurrent IP services will have a positive impact on our total cost of ownership and ultimately simplify our network operations. Juniper Networks M-series Internet infrastructure will intelligently speed IP traffic through our network," says Cable & Wireless Global Operations senior vice president Phil Green. Green says Jupiter's solution will include multiple voice and data services over both new and existing network equipment. The driving force behind this involves the redeployment of previously designated "core routers" to the dedicated access edge of the Cable & Wireless network. In addition to the Operation Support System capabilities within the JUNOS software, Juniper says its networking helps Cable & Wireless in longer-term capital planning and network capacity planning especially in the U.S., U.K. and Japan. internet.com corp.
