Truth is that without jobs created by US capital, there would be higher unemployment there. Some countries just don't have what it takes to build lasting prosperity. Argentina comes to mind. G.

Jerome, if it's enslavement, you have a very broad definition. The pay that people in other countries get isn't as good as the US, but in their own countries, it isn't bad. Hatred against the US is really based more on jealousy at our desire to improve our position. For a really clear idea of what I mean, read "Band of Brothers" and what the GI's observed as they traveled throughout Europe. France, the one Western country with the worst relations with the US, owes more to the US than many others. However, based on the time the GIs spent in France, they were less than impressed with the French work ethic, and found them to be self-satisfied individuals, very provincial. Other countries that have problems with the US have different traits, but with similar results. It's no surprise that the US has its best relations with other Western nations. It's where we got our work ethic. That shared history is a tremendous link and driving force. The other thing to remember is that US problems abroad are primarily a Muslim issue. That involves other issues, which are extraordinarily complex, as you're aware. I don't believe the standard line that the US isn't well liked in 3rd world countries. I've traveled in many, and found the people happy with US citizens and the US in general. People who generalize the hatred or dislike issue are focussing on the same minor things that racists in the US focus on - issues that simmer below the surface, but are insignificant to the vast majority of people.
