<<``liberator pistols.'' The latter were mass produced for $1.72 each and dropped to resistance fighters during World War II. >>

Is that manna or manure from Heaven?

Seen em at gun shows, single shot(chambered for .45 ACP) cheap stamped metal pistol. Contractor said were it not for the barrel they could have made & the liberator (little more than upscale zip guns IMHO) for $1.00 - and the barrel wasn't even rifled! I haven't a site for a picture(see update below), but will look around. Because they were so cheap not all that many survived. Many years ago(before restrictions at gun shows on pistol sales) saw them at asking price of $60-75 at a time when somewhat worn "surplus" .45's(semi-auto's) were going for $150-225.

They were also discussed a bit on one of the fine shows about History of the Gun on the History Channel.

OK, just found it here's a link:
home.pacbell.net

Ones I saw, I wouldn't be in a hurry to shoot unless my life depended on it. The liberator was dropped with (if I remember right) 5 shots storred in the handle space. Limited range for it was said to be only 5-10 feet! I can just imagine hiding in the brush waiting for a Japanese soldier to come by with a (somewhat)better firearm & after he passed jump out & try to shoot him in the back with that piece of junk before he got out of range or hears me, turning & firing - gulp.... after 1 shell is removed the remaining ammo rattles even worse!!

It really reminds me of a flare pistol.
