Why on earth would you bring up trade agreements to a discussion of free trade? When the government gets involved, trade isn't free.

Well, now we are on different planets. All the discussions I have ever had about "free trade" were about whether the government should "liberalize" trade. Those were all about political decisions, winners and losers, political spinning, etc.

The actual policy decisions as to whether given social units (countries, whatever) benefitted from such decisions were only the "chattering classes" talk on TV, to use a term I think Nadine has used recently. And, oh, yes, perhaps they are still the stuff of introductory economics classes.
