Brian1501 Re... They are one of the parties pushing for SDTV (digital standard definition tv). Like the Superbowl this year...they would rather have many DVD quality channels than 1 HD quality channel (plus a few lesser subchannels).

The government needs to get some backbone here. They were counting on the transition to HD so they could auction off the existing TV spectrum.<<<<<<<

You can say that because you have invested in HD and you don't want to see your investment go to waste. However, over 90% of the people now, given the choice prefer to save their money and go with SDTV. When congress passed the HD law, I doubt if they knew how good SDTV was and how few people would prefer to spend that kind of money. I realize both you and I could afford it, but a lot of people can't, and Fox is just being pragmatic.

I agree with you here, but my original point in replying to you was your mention that HD was not much better than DSS. HD is several orders of magnitude better than DSS.<<<<<<

That would have to depend upon what your definition of "order of magnitude" is. From what I see, HD is better, but it isn't as many orders of magnitude better than DSS as DSS is orders of magnitude better than analog. DSS gives you a very good picture, and for price/performance, it is a much better deal than HD.
