You may or may not know this, but he was told and told by family, friends, and shrinks that sooner or later that his wife was going to blow up. He was told even before they had their last child. He could have gotten a vasectomy, and he should have gotten his wife help and away from the children much earlier.

I can assure you it is the most difficult task you will ever undertake....and there is no shame in not always handling it as well as others think you should have.

As I have not had to deal with that, I would probably agree with you, but there is just too much evidence showing that he could have done something different in his OWN life to make it better for her.

I am ambivalent. I agree with you, that the position is almost unbearable. But there were warnings of possibly dire consequences, and so I can see why Dan is agitated. In the end, though, I guess I would not like to sit in judgement on someone who must be full of self- recrimination, and has clearly suffered from his dilemma.......

Interesting view on a very awkward and disastrous situation. I agree that this whole awful tragedy is not just a black and white issue.
