A SEVENTH-GRADE CURRICULUM
A summary of California state standards for the unit of seventh-grade world history looking at the civilizations of Islam in the Middle Ages.
> Identify physical features and describe climate of Arabian Peninsula.
> Trace origins of Islam and life and teachings of Muhammad, including Islamic teachings on connection with Judaism and Christianity.
> Explain the significance of the Quran and the Sunna as the primary sources of Islamic beliefs, practice and law and their influence in Muslims' daily life.
> Discuss expansion of Muslim rule through military conquests and treaties.
> Describe growth of cities and establishment of trade routes.
> Understand the intellectual exchanges among Muslim scholars of Eurasia and Africa and contributions Muslim scholars made in the areas of science, geography, mathematics, philosophy, medicine, art and literature.
