Do you know of any species that has "evoluted" downwards?

That's a hoot! Of course species don't evolve down. Like the army, it's up or out. Out as in extinct. Even species like the panda, which aren't evolving down but aren't adapting, will be extinct just as soon as the one kind of bamboo that they like is gone. The silly things can't even reproduce unless conditions are perfect. All they have going for them is that they're cute.

[I got to cuddle one once in China. They really are darling.]

Do you know of any species that has "evoluted" downwards? Why always upward, and for the better?

Because species that are less successful, become extinct.
That's the point. We only see the winners.

As for 'upward' - do you think evolution stops with you? Well, where are your wings? Why can dolphins dive deeper than you? Meanwhile, the most primitive bacilli survive without oxygen. That's more than any human can manage.
