He was looking for market analysts with new and different ideas (he told us this at a seminar I went to) - given the flood of sacked investment professionals floating around, as he said "you need to be able to add value". So just coming along and saying "I'm an academic economist but I'd like to get into finance" doesn't seem to be what he was looking for. I didn't tell him I had anything foolproof... just some new methods and perspectives.... I don't think his new mandates have come through yet... so he is still a small operation.. the new money arriving was the reason he wanted to hire more staff.
