John - Re: "? Is a mobile phone just a mobile phone to the end user. Do they really want data? "

A phone is a phone to a lot of users.

For business folks, a phone with continual connection to the Internet or e-mail will be an invaluable tool.

For the fashion conscious, the latest gadget will be a must.

To the absent minded, they will always be buying a new phone, to replace the one they just misplaced.

John,

Will consumers want data?

Jeez, you better hope so. A bunch of Europeans carriers just spent billions on spectrum...

But, seriously, I believe that, initially, there will be little demand for data services. However, as screens on cell phones become larger and clearer, demand for data services will increase.
