Lets ponder this mmo2 thing, Eric. From the point of view of the operator it is good to have more than one or two suppliers so that you play them against each other.
In the other hand it is good to have a single one because you can squeeze him for better terms.

From the point of view of a vendor it is good to show the world this trophy mammoth contract. But again if you have all your eggs in one single basket, and this operator faces trouble, the vendor is hurt.

Another point -still with the vendor's perspective in mind- is that it is good to have a variety of smaller contracts so that you get different "flavors" of customers with whom you always learn a new trick or twist to improve your product/system. That because the vendor corporate culture will start slowly to be shaped by the saurian-sized customer, that after sometime have become a Prima-Donna worth of all attention.

All that are facts of vendors' life. It is up to their managers to handle this to exploit the advantages and avoid the pitfalls.

By the way: ERICY was the main vendor for ATT. Couple of years ago, ATT launched One Rate Digital. Ericsson -used to sedate pace of deployment- was caught flat footed. ATT and ERICY underestimated the take up of the new services.

When shit hit the propeller -or the pages of the WSJ et al- ATT told ERICY to crank up their machine. To no avail: ERICY was hell-bent in selling their stuff here in Brazil and could speed up. ATT gave part of ERICY to NT and LU.

We may expect variations of those themes once 3G baby pushes his head through...
