The people who created Zionism were non- practicing Jews with no knowledge of the Talmud, and many Orthodox Jews were opposed to the establishment of Israel prior to the coming of the Messiah. Some pious Jews even now refuse to recognize the legitimacy of Israel. The mainstream of Zionism was motivated by nationalism and a desire to get free of anti- semitism. The earliest Zionist pioneers were mostly atheists and agnostics with socialist leanings..........
