This is something else.Back in the mid eighties scientists reported that certain gases under pressure were capable of creating a( nonamphorous?) reflecting medium. But not only did it just reflect lasers, but it reflected it directly backwards along its original path to its point of origin, and beyond.Applications included correcting atmospheric distortions in telescopes and perfect focusing of lasers without lenses for etching extremely fine circuits.Scientists also reported two other interesting phenomina; It was possible to pump lasers using this medium much like an old vacuum amplifying tube(using a small current(in this case laser) to controll a large one) ,and reflected laser light caught by this medium would "reflect"a beam back to the point of origin of the reflection. That is it would automaticly "track"an metalic object.
This was all reported in Scientific America, but I have not heard a word about it or been able to find any reference on the net since.
You seem to have quite an eceletic store of knowlege so I thought I might ask.
