one more note : a site linked on another thread mentioned with a chart that indicated if a person had dollar cost averaged $ 500 per month in an s and p index fund from 97 till now, the total profit for the whole operation would be $ 160

well i guess that is better than losing...

now isin't one of knighty's biggest fans a dollar cost average guru ? <g>

Retired, re: the ETF for gold, this is from the Barclay's iUnits website. it looks like since the merger Franco is off the sub index (? maybe not considered Canadian anymore?)

BARRICK GOLD CORP 26%
AGNICO EAGLE 12%
GOLDCORP INC 20%
KINROSS GOLD 5%
MERIDIAN GOLD 15%
PLACER DOME 22%

I've rounded off the numbers. It is supposed to be based on the S&P/TSE Canadian Gold Index.

If anyone knows what happen to Franco, let me know.
