Compaq blocks INQUIRER site

Calling all moles...
By Mike Magee, 03/03/2002 14:21:05 BST

MOLES SURFACING FROM Compaq sites all over the planet tell us the paranoid firm has introduced blocking of our site over the internal network.
According to one reliable mole somewhere in America, who sent us this emissive:

"I have made a habit of reading your web site every morning at work, since I seem to get more valid information from your site than from the executives in my own company about the merger, and noticed that both yesterday and today I could not reach your site from the internal network."

But the proxy banning the INQUIRER seems to be selective, he adds.

It appears to be related to sites particularly close to the Alpha and the Itanium.

"I have IM'ed my friends working elsewhere and they were able to load up your page fine," he said.

"Compaq looks to have added your web site to their proxy list to block any internal computers from getting to it. Looks like Captain Cappellas is seriously getting annoyed with you guys."

Not as annoyed as we're getting with him, however, if any elements of this story are true.

We're inclined to do as Winston Churchill did in the Second World War and give Capellas the V for Victory sign...

According to one observer familiar with the facts: "This is the sort of crap that Communist governments engage in on a regular basis. It is called keeping the truth away from the people. Remember that the American CIA's motto is 'The Truth Shall Set You Free".

Compaq could not be contacted for comment at press time. µ
