You're mixing faith and history. One does not learn from the past of a religion the way one can learn from a culture or ation by looking at its past. Sorry, Vic, but religion, culture and history are all inexorably intertwined. You cannot truly understand one without the others. Do you think schools should only teach kids about Christian cultures and history, or that history should be taught by rote memorization of event timelines without any discusion of the reasons the events occurred? Hell, you can't even teach European history without bringing up Islam. Muslims did control most of Spain and the Balkans for some time.
