Also, J.P., the fellow who wrote that article is our inside-the-Beltway equivalent of James Cramer---publicity-seeking, radio/TV-show screaming, self-promoting whiz of the financial world.

Not to take anything away from the writer's financial planning skills, which may be OK in many respects, but he likes to get attention--and business.

Also, it's interesting that other, even better-known financial guru types have taken the completely opposite view lately with regard to paying off a mortgage or keeping the mortgage small.

I agree. I know you and I differ on a lot of aspects about real estate, but we clearly see eye to eye on the issue of taking on leverage beyond one's means.
