>If Intel copies x86-64 in Yamhill, but only has support for 4G of memory, what's the point?<

How much physical memory does P4 Xeon support? I know that PII/PIII Xeon supported 64GB of physical memory. What would stop Intel from standardizing on the current P4 Xeon socket for desktop Prescott and introduce a new socket for the Xeon variant. They could even introduce an MP variant of the desktop processor for the upgrade of existing P4 Xeon systems.
