wbmw,

How about not thinking like a hardware enthusiast, for a change, and consider an Athlon XP 2000+ without comparing it to the Pentium 4 2.0GHz.

AMD is Pepsi, or Avis of this world. Everything compares to Coke and Hertz. It doesn't have much to do that the processor or clock speed, it has everything to do with the fact that the processor is Intel.

Joe

re: then you will have admitted that QuantiSpeed has effectively given credibility to the notion that megahertz equals performance.
I thought we already discussed that topic? The MHzs make difference to less informed buyer. Model number is a rough guide for those buyers. Neither MHz nor model numbers would matter much for a person who is comparing performance benchmarks.
If intel tell buyers that MHz is the only thing that counts then there is very little alternative for amd but to provide instant guide via model numbers.
I was against the model numbers at the time but after talking to you I am convinced that amd not only made the right choice but that was the only choice that was available
