If Ashcroft won't prosecute a Clinton staffer for 3-day backdating at the end of the term, there's probably no case worth persuing. That's one advantage of highly partisan politics. Petty stuff gets attacked if there's anything there. Now that this is in the public record, it can be referred to later if relevant.

On the other hand, major issues go unexamined by either party. The presidential papers of the previous Clinton, Reagan and Bush administrations are being suppressed by Bush II unilaterally.

"Sunshine Laws" at least get information out to the citizens, and is the the only protection against totalitarianism. That protection looks slim at the moment.
