AMD Orders Additional High Performance Schlumberger Test System ITS 9000ZX To Engineer Next Generation HyperTransport Digital Bus Interface Devices

This is purely for device characterization. One has to wonder why they are ordering another one now?

DivX 5.0 out today - and with AMD optimizations!!

From their site:

"Let the conspiracy theories end here. We heard our people's cries and have responded! DivX 5.0 includes full and complete optimizations for AMD Athlon processors, including the Athlon XP processor. We worked together with Advanced Micro Devices and their engineers to ensure that you get absolutely the best possible DivX performance out of your AMD processors. All Athlon users should see significant decoding and encoding performance improvements of up to 20%. Enjoy."

See divx.com

(Found the link via Planet 3DNow! These people are really doing a good job. I recommend to all those who speak German to visit their site: planet3dnow.de

It's really great news! DivX is not only an important application, it is also widely used as benchmark.

In DivX 4.11 and 4.12 (which had only P4 but no AMD optimizations) the Athlon XP 2000+ and the P4 2000A scored equal in the tests performed by AnandTech and Tom's Hardware Guide. The P4 2200A had a clear lead (about 6%). See anandtech.com and www6.tomshardware.com
