RtS, Congratulations! I was too chicken to get in this morning, so for the moment I am on the sidelines. The market really looks strong.

RtS,
alway good to take profits. Everyone got a different style. Mine is buy & hold, so I'm still in my semi equips (KLIC, MKSI, Riber)

In CVD and related equipment, I do like VECO to some extent. It may settle down due to downgrade but valuation is truly compelling (PSR < 2). FYI, they recently took over Applied EPI - one of the few global proviers of MBE EQuipment (Molecular Beam Epitaxi) - the "other" method to grow compound semiconductors besides the many CVD derivatives (MOCVD, LPCVD etc..)

In France, there is another MBE company called Riber, listing for about 4€ on the Paris Market. That is also a Price/Sales of 2. Also very cheap IMHO. From their newsfeed (www.riber.com) i concluded that MBE looks like a "must" or the preferred method when it comes to InP substrate and the many InP related applications. Riber is trading in Paris, maybe it's also trading on the PinkSheets in the US (I think so). Look it up here: www.pinksheets.com

Another Compound semi co - Hitachi Cable (Japan) - Ticker : 5812 - now trading at Y-540

Quote: quote.yahoo.co.jp
I think they are PinkSheet listed in the US
Link to Japan : hitachi-cable.com
Link to US subsidiary (HCA) : hitachi-cable.com

Valuation is very low : PSR around 0.60, Significant Sales in 2001 - Yen - 330bn, 6750 Emps, 373,4m shares out..

Hitachi Cable is a significant contender internationally, one of the largest commercial proviers of compound semi wafers (Top 3)- InP, GaAs and coming up SiC and GaN

This will be one of the next buys I'll do in Japan. Any input on their products and competitive position from industry experts like you are of course highly appreciated.

Their competitors are Emcore (EMKR), Kopin (KOPN) and ATMI-Epitronics (ATMI)

Aside from this they manufacture wires & cables (mostly undersea fiberoptic cable), Many passive and active optical systems, networking equipment, superconductors, rare earth magnets etc..

Their active optics assortment is really top notch: transceivers for 10GBE, Pimp Lasers,

PAssive Optics: VOA, OADMs, Interleavers, AWGs, PLCs

Capabilities: GaAs, InGaAs, InP, AlGas, InGaP, GaN + derivatives, SiC

Structures : Epitaxx, HEMT, PHEMT, MESFETS, HBT
