CRM, I don't recall socialists being out of power in Kiwiland [other than briefly in the mid 1980s and that was half-baked]. Anyway, I'm in a position to comment on anything, any time I like. I'm not bound by any group. I'm not "you guys" - there's only one of me. Therefore you are in the very lucky position to have me pontificate, even though I'm not a pontiff.

I know they aren't called royalty in the USA, but there are family dynasties with inherited power, confirmed by the electoral college - somebody from Santee as PCSTEL pointed out to me. You have the royal Kennedys and now the Bushes. The Gores were competing for power, but missed out.

There is something about people which invents royalty, even if they don't officially have it. There are the Ghandis in India [a very long-running saga], the Bhuttos in Pakistan. I guess it's a matter of better the devil you know.
