Hi Nadine Carroll; Maybe Arafat wasn't trying very hard to stop Palestinian terrorists from attacking Israel, but it is now appears that Arafat is actively promoting attacks. I say this because the attacks are becoming far more efficient than before, and aren't simply suicide bombers. This indicates a higher level of professionalism. In addition, there are attacks directly against "legitimate" military targets, in addition to the usual suicide bombers.

Neither side is really fighting yet. Both have huge reserves. When it does come, the death toll will be many hundreds or thousands per day, and it will go on for many months. Cities will be completely destroyed, and millions will become homeless. And maybe, just maybe, if it's horrible enough, if it lasts long enough, then when it's all over, we'll finally have some peace and quiet in that corner of the Middle East.

The whole purpose of the suicide bombers was to force a real conflict.
