Jozef, OT,In the society of prison anyone who has killed a police officer or jail guard is at the top of the heap in terms of prestige. Child molesters are at the bottom.
Guys like him with 2 life terms and who will never walk the streets again are called 'lifers' and they do indeed consider themselves immune from all further punishment, and they act that way. The guards know this and treat them with max alertness.
The only consolation is the fact that he will spend this time in a maximum security facility where he and the others will train younger men towards violence and crime.

I happen to believe that all prisoners need to be jailed out of communication with all other inmates, but with a direct, video capable, internet line home to family and a few permitted associates that is monitored and net nannied.

The provision of a link to friends and family would go a long way towards keeping families together and to making people more content and repentant.

Currently the biggest problem is knowledge transfer from senior inmates to junior inmates whereby the juniors learn all the scams, welfare and credit cards frauds, as well as break and enter methods of all kinds.

Cutting them off from their peers would go a long way towards stopping this lateral transfer of knowledge.
Trouble is too much cost, they are trying to run it the cheapest way without regard to the long term problem of the prison society being a self propagating society that is able to resist the corrective efforts of our society as long as the prison society is able to operate. but it would soon cut the numbers down.
I would expect it would allow all sentences to be shortened by 50% or more and the repeat offender rate would also drop a great deal.
