I am feeling sort of confident about Unicom, they have seen what is happening in Korea, and I expect the launches in the U.S. of 1X will be successful also. Handsets are beginning to become available, I think that we can not make judgements on the success of Uincom for another 6 months.

Hey Tom,

are you in Germany again? Didn't you say you are going to Hanover? Is that this week or next week? Go find if Nok got their 1X chipset. I want to know how many colors the chipset comes in.

China had been extremely quiet since Chinese New Years. Handsets availability and UIM card functionality were the most popular excuse for Unicom not signing up billions of subcribers by now.

Here are some misc stuff:

April 8 is still the last known official launch date.

MOT and either Hisense or Haier (I forgot which one) combined should have about 3.5 million capacity this year, not to mention the others coming down the line.

Unicom is setting the rate the same as GSM right now. However, MII gave them permission to set rates at 10% below China Mobile. I assume Unicom would use that when they are ready to steal subs. Why bother now when they don't even have enough handsets to sell.

GPRS front has been very quiet.

As for current subs, I have not seen any reports for quite some time.
