Will do on CNBC & here's a <font color=blue>TMF update.

It was a long cold weekend here in the Austin area. But, one high point was that Oreo's mom & I got to talk a little. She apologizes that Oreo wasn't there in cow to talk, but the cow gossip channel is quite reliable, unlike human gossip channels. ;D

Anyway, here's what Oreo passed along.

It seems that people inside intel are quaking in their boots over Hammer. I think her exact quote from intellers was "very nervous about Hammer". She went on to say they are saying "that secret project" and "everyone inside is denying it, but they all know it's true." They were stunned when an outside non-inteller said "you mean Yamhill". They thought nobody knew, and were shocked by the technology behind "The Inquirer". Oddly, these intellers were also confident that Intel would never launch a copy-cat version of AMD-64 (I like this more than x86-64 ;D ), after all, intel strickly believes in NIH.

I'm sure intel has been confident that Hammer will get delayed another 6-12 months, and fail to meet performance expectations. But, now that it's out in demos, and running more than a "Frequency Counter" program under DOS, reality is facing them hard. Even though I'm sure AMD is most cautious about where & to who Hammers go, I'll bet that enough info has gotten back to Satan Clara to paint a reasonable picture. But, these folks being quoted above, per Oreo that is, are further north as in Oregon or Washington. She didn't want to disclose her sources. ;D

Things are heating up. I'll be curious to see what rabbits intel hopes to find in their hat. And when they start doing it (was the model #'s charts their first try?). But, I'm certain, it won't be a technology rabbit, but rather a marketing one. After all, why start doing engineering when smoke & mirrors have historically been just as effective... ;D

Black Magic

PS: This is for PB, note that all of the above are data-less & pure rumors. I will say that I am certain these discussions are surrounding many water coolers in intel. However, note that I usually tie Oreo into these sorts of posts hoping that most will associate the lack of evidence with words being spoken by a cow. Worth every penny... ;D

Milo, Re: JS to be on CNBC at 4PM PST/7PM EST.
Could you (or someone else) please summarize his appearance for those of us who can't watch CNBC?

Thanks in advance,

Andreas;

Direct quotes from J. Sander's appearance on CNBC is as follows:

1. "AMD is stealing market share from INTC.....AGAIN."

2. "We will be profitable big time in 2002."

3. "Hammer will hammer and claw Intel to death."

4. "AMD does research like no other chip company and we will have more patents than Intel AGAIN next year."

5. "Intel is trying to screw us AGAIN by selling their P4s at a discount. We heard thru the channels that they are are selling the P4s with 0% financing.....or was that for my new Jag?

When o when will the Dept of Justice step in?!!"

4. "I will retire for real in 2005 AGAIN. H. Ruiz as intended will take over for me in 2007. If it doesn't work out, I will be back by 2009.....if I ever do leave. Hehehehe!!"

;~))

And now for the real JS rant:

1. AMD PC biz doing well globally. Global sales in general [not just AMD] were up 4% this year and expected to be up 6% this year.

2. AMD inventories getting down to reasonable levels.

3. Beginning to see spotty pick up in first half, 2002. Expecting a 20% YOY increase in the second half.

4. Hammer is the 'holy grail' for AMD. Will allow AMD to have a full range of chips to compete against Intel. It is 64 bits capable of running 32 bits. Hammer will transform AMD from 2 to 1.

4. AMD has better margins that Intel because of smaller chips. AMD is stealing market share.

5. Will J. Sanders step down in April and let Ruiz take over. Well not exactly...almost but not really. In other words, Sanders ain't going anywhere soon. Sound familiar?
