I believe that an important outcome of the Hammer presentation has been that AMD isn't automatically seen as doomed or "roadkill" any more. In the past, no matter how well AMD did, the general sentiment by many analysts was that in the not-too-distant future Intel was going to crush AMD. If this time we get less "AMD-has-no-song-and-no-prayer" or "AMD-is-going-to-$10" predictions, this alone would be a big success.
