SEOUL, March 4 (Reuters) - South Korea's key business sentiment index rose to a record high in March in expectation of an expanding economy this year, Korea's largest business lobby group said on Monday.

The Federation of Korean Industries' (FKI) monthly business survey index (BSI) rose in March to 141.9, from 110.7 in February, the highest level since 1975 when the group began the index.

A reading above 100 indicates that the number of companies forecasting an improved business outlook in the month ahead outnumber those expecting a worsening outlook.

"Recent signs point toward an early recovery for the U.S. economy, drastically improving investment and export expectations by domestic companies," the FKI said in a statement.

South Korea's economy is forecast to grow four percent this year after rising around three percent in 2001.

The business lobby group said increased work days in March compared to February, which had the Lunar New Year holidays, and a bullish stock market were also reasons for the positive outlook.
