Don't know how you made that assumption. Linux is obviously a UNIX replacement. Sun Solaris is the only UNIX that ever had a chance on x86 hardware but Sun's support in promoting application development on x86 Solaris has been pretty poor. So poor in fact they now have to promote Linux.
