Yes, Europe is flexing its muscles in pretty questionable ways.

As I recall, some countries over there tried to get Ebay to have to block all auctions of Nazi items from their countries because their laws make it illegal to buy or own them. It's a race to the bottom. If this principle is allowed to spread, we'll have a race to the bottom -- much like the local content laws on pornography where the most conservative jurisdiction with the most aggressive prosecutor (usually seeking higher office) tries to impose their community standards on the whole country by prosecuting items available over the web in their communities which violate their standards.

Repressive governments always have tried and always will keep trying to stifle the free flow of information. Information is the most dangerous thing there is, in the long run.
