Yes it has, and with more telling effect. It was called Operation Desert Storm. There is a tremendous time lag to be sure. Still, Saddam could in no wise put together an army the size of which (in relative terms) faced Alexander at Gaugemela. The Iraqui army is now a mere shadow of it's 1990 self. Let us hope Bush II has more "Arrete" than Bush I.

I do wish to comment on operation Anaconda briefly. US military forces have accomplished what even Alexander (the greatest general the West has ever known) could not. They have defeated Afghan forces in the mountains - IN WINTER. This is not trivial.

I salute all US forces in this astonishing victory. Gentlemen - YOU WERE MAGNIFICENT! US forces fought and won under the worst conditions known to man against a dedicated foe. While this victory will be little noted by a brain dead press, I can assure you that the opponents of these gallant men will have learned a powerful lesson.
