Interesting remarks on C-SPAN tonight from Rep. Charlie Stenholm, a Blue Dog (conservative) Democrat from Texas. He was most critical of Bush's plan to increase the debt ceiling by $750 billion absent a plan by GWB to balance the budget in the future. Most critical. Under Bush's plan, the Social Security funds will be raided through 2008, Stenholm said. In short, Stenholm accused the cut-taxes-and-spend Republican administration of being fiscally irresponsible.

I thought that one of GWB's alleged strengths was working well with the Blue Dogs.

I certainly didn't get that impression tonight listening to Stenholm.
