The word I would put on it is the need to feel "purposeful" in life. Maybe it's different for different people. I don't know. Purposeful is part of it for me but not all. Purposeful just doesn't have that sense of challenge, of soaring. And I wouldn't call it a need, more a calling or a quest. I imagine that whatever it is isn't nurtured so much as allowed to flourish. Like initiative or motivation, you don't encourage it so much as avoid stifling it. Freedom is essential, I think. Karen
