" but I haven't seen anything out of Qualcomm..."

802.11b has been stated feature of the "wireless internet launchpad" suite available on qualcomm chips for some time. I believe they see it as complementary to 3G (ie one would use 3G whenever you weren't in a hotspot).

See the list under "connectivity" on the following slide.

Rob:

I know Verizon has been involved in some IEEE work with CDMA-WLAN evolution-integration and Sprint has invested in Boingo, but I haven't seen anything out of Qualcomm...

Take a look/listen to IJ towards the end of his presentation at the 11/8/01 analyst meeting (slides 29/30 and his words around them):

Qualcomm clearly sees Wi-Fi as complementary to 3G wireless data. They are certainly not ignoring it.
