Immature or not, Compaq and HP are transitioning their complete line of enterprise servers to IA-64 over the next 5 years. IBM and Dell will be selling Itanium, too

How do you judge these things? By the press releases?

Sometimes the press releases don't tell you the whole story. Like when Dell transitioned their workstation line from Itanium back to x86, there was no press release. Also, when TOshiba's Intel-only desktop line folded, there was no press release from either Toshiba or Intel.
