Since 1983 there have been only two time zones in Alaska. Most of the state is on Alaska time, and the westernmost Aleutians are on Hawaii-Aleutian time.

The combining of the time zones in 1983 was an outcome of the epic battle to move the state Capitol from Juneau to the Anchorage area. One of the arguments for the proposed move was that most of the citizens had problems dealing with state government because of the time zone difference. Instead of moving the Capitol, we moved combined the time zones.
