Once space travel gets underway and we meet other intelligent species, I suspect there will be different priorities and relative imbalances of precious materials between planets and solar systems. This should lead to a lot of good Star Trek plots.

Could there be some planets where they use turquoise or lapis lazuli as money? Do you suppose the central banks are trying to unload their turquoise, against opposition from those who think turquoise is the only real store of value? Could there be politicians clamoring for the unlimited coinage of lapis lazuli? Judging scandals over athletes competing for jade pendants?
