The people weren't really interested in it in California either.

Tonight, I attended a meeting of local citizens who are trying to organize to stop a new gas fired generation station from going in about 30 miles north of here.

As far as plants go, its about as good as it gets in terms of pollution. And it isn't the worst site I've ever seen these rape & pillage types try to thrust down the public's throat. But it still is pretty rude. Especially the fact that it really isn't going to much help to the local economy. About 24 permanent local jobs, and particulate, NOx, SO2 and CO pollution forever. Not the best tradeoffs for a tourist area that thrives on the pristine nature of the environment.

Surprisingly, we've even got the local IBEW joining the envirnmentalists to fight this one. Seems that the North Carolina crowd wants to stiff the unions. Last plant these turkeys built over in Umatilla, they imported cheap Chilean welders for the construction. Until the INS shut that act down. These Cogentrix creeps are nothing but a pack of greedy lawyers, out to rape whatever part of the country they can. And they love areas like Madras, OR, which they figured were nothing but a bunch of disorganized hayseeds anyway. Well, it's been interesting watching democracy in action. Fact of the matter is, democracy isn't what the fat cats want, and it isn't terribly convenient for the politicians they bribe neither.

While I was researching, I found this other pretty interesting article about Cogentrix in India:

After 7 years of bribery, they finally had to give up. It was stated at the meeting this evening that Cogentrix had one unexpected and good result in its Indian rape escapade. They helped found the largest environmental movement in India in opposition to Cogentrix high handed disregard for the environment. I guess that is what passes for progress these days.

So, tonight was a classic NIMBY night. Or as the wags put it lately, BANANA! Build Absolutely Nothing Anywhere Near Anybody!
