Munich, March 6 (Bloomberg) -- CE Consumer Electronic AG, Germany's biggest broker of microchips, said 2001 operating profit dropped as demand for semiconductors fell. It predicted an industry recovery beginning in the third quarter.

Operating profit for the full year fell to 100,000 euros ($87,000) from 12.7 million euros in 2000, the company said in a statement to the Frankfurt exchange. Sales rose 50 percent to 426.8 million euros.

``We expect a restrained first half year,'' CE Consumer said. ``Afterwards the demand in the semiconductor market will rise significantly.''
